NCNCA District Championship: Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Gibson Ranch Park

The 2016 Northern California and Nevada Cycling Association (NCNCA) Cyclocross Championship will be held at what is arguably one of the greatest cyclocross venues in Northern California. Gibson Ranch Park is comprised of 325 acres of grass, pavement, mud and gravel... so it's basically a cyclocrosser's paradise. Sacramento Cyclocross held a race here for the first time in 2014 and it was an instant classic, so we're bringing the championship here for all to enjoy. Join us the day before on Saturday, December 10 for the final race of the Sacramento Cyclocross season, and a preview of the District Championship venue.

Note: This NCNCA Championship Race is a stand-alone race, and is not part of the eight-race Sacramento Cyclocross season.
It's an awesome bonus race to what promises to be a fun-filled SacCX season!

Course description: The Gibson Ranch course gets a fast pavement start before diving off into grassy rolling hills. Steady climbs are met with rewarding descents and fast turns before dropping down onto the old horse racing track. Once off the track we hit up the hillside for some technical work and a drop down into the creek for a natural barrier climb out. Then head around the lake and back over to the finish.

USAC and NCNCA Information

USA Cycling

USA Cycling is the official governing body for all disciplines of competitive cycling in the United States, including cyclocross. USA Cycling racing levels are called categories, sometimes referred to as "cats." The beginner-level category for men is Cat 5 and the beginner-level category for women is Cat 4; the highest level for both men and women is Cat 1.

Anyone can become a member of USA Cycling and earn category upgrades as their experience and skills improve. The races you are eligible to enter depends on what cyclocross category you are currently licensed for. When you first join USA Cycling, you start as a Cat 5 (Cat 4 for women). As you finish at the top of your class, you become eligible to upgrade to the next category. Specific rules for cyclocross upgrades can be found on the USA Cycling website.

If you are not currently a member of USA Cycling, it is easy to get started! They offer "One Day Licenses" which allow anyone to comepete in a USA Cycling sanctioned race. A One Day License costs $10, and can be purchased at registration on race day. Anyone who races with a One Day License is automatically a Cat 5 (Cat 4 for women). Please note that anyone who races NCNCA District Championships must be an annual USA Cycling licenseholder to qualify for a medal and a podium finish. Anyone racing with a One Day License will be included in results as they placed, but will not be part of the podium ceremony. Annual licenses can be purchased through the USA Cycling website or bought at registration on race day.

NCNCA

The Northern California / Nevada Cycling Association (or NCNCA) is the local organization for USA Cycling. They promote cycling at the local level, provide officials to oversee USA Cycling sanctioned races, and offer equipment and other support to local race promoters. Most local associations are comprised of an entire state, but because California is such a large state it is split into the Northern California / Nevada Cycling Association and the Southern California / Nevada Cycling Association.
